Bluefin Tuna Charters
Hingham Massachusetts is located about 30 minutes south of Boston making it one of the best and most productive locations in the world to go catch Bluefin Tuna. Hingham is the perfect choice for your bluefin tuna trip due to the close proximity to all the fishing grounds including Stellwagen Bank and Cape Cod Bay.
On average it usually takes about 45 minutes to reach the fishing grounds depending on weather.
A 25 Mile run out of Hingham Harbor, passing Boston Lighthouse, and across Massachusetts bay puts us on Stellwagen Bank, which has some of the best Bluefin tuna fishing in the world.
What to expect
For Tuna charters we usually leave around 4:00-5:00 am depending on time of year. One thing that every captain will tell you is that every day on the water is different.
Some trips we might hook 3 or 4 giant bluefin tuna and other trips we might not get a bite. However each year Suspect is always one of the top boats in the fleet.
As for size of the fish, a “Giant” is considered any fish thats bigger than 73 inches. Smaller tuna under 73 inches are still around as well. If conditions are good and the boat has not gotten a bite, a lot of times we will stay out longer as we want to catch fish just as bad as you. The Smaller fish we catch are normally 100 to 250 pounds and the larger fish can be over 1,000 pounds!
If we do land a giant tuna, it will automatically become property of the boat Due to NMFS regulations. Smaller fish will be cut up by Capt. Jake or Jimmy for you to take home and enjoy!
How we fish for tuna
Every day is different when searching for bluefin tuna, however most of the time we are fishing we will be using live bait. This is our preferred method for catching giant’s. We will use weights when the tuna are feeding deep and floats when the tuna are feeding on the surface, our techniques might also lead us to use both of these methods to cover all depths.
